Hi guys,
After a dis-heartening experience with 16mm I've decided I want to play around with MiniDV but I don't really want to spend money, somebody offered to buy me a camera as a gift. I just want a camera that can't eat the negative, or get messed up at the lab etc.
Anyhow, I live in Ireland which is a PAL country but looking at miniDV cameras they are way more expensive than in the US. I could get a JVC GRD 70 for $339 from the US, while the equivilant JVC model here is like ?700.
What worries me is the NTSC/ PAL business. I presume I would be able to downloaded the video to my PC no trouble, burn it onto a VCD and watch on the TV thru my DVD player, which can handle NTSC. Is this so?
Also, I presume that if I plugged the camera directly to my TV or VHS, it would not work due to the standards difference?
Any help much appreciated.
Micheal

Keep it simple, pay more and get a PAL camera. Unless you like banging round pegs into square holes.

not only is NTSC going to give you compatibility problems... even if you could get NTSC to run perfectly (which isnt going to happen) it still doesnt stand up to PALs picture quality. Get a PAL
